INNOVATION XLAB

The XLab is the R&D innovation arm of PLA. The XLab allows for incubation and development of prototypes and demonstrators, and to evaluate technical feasibility, risks, and benefits of innovation projects.

WHO CAN USE THE PLA INNOVATION XLAB?

The XLab is open to PLA members and non-members. Core Projects are aligned with PLA’s strategic roadmap and funded by membership fees. Sponsored Projects are collaborative research and development initiated and funded by members and non-members on specific topics connected to PLA’s broader purpose.

Do you have an idea, project, or product to bring to the XLab?

When a project proposal is in line with the PLA strategic roadmap and prioritized by the XLab team, it can immediately start to be developed.

If the idea is new and not part of the strategic roadmap but of great value to healthcare, it may require special funding approval or financial sponsorship by interested organizations.

Either way, PLA is the venue for collaboration to incubate, develop, and launch Healthcare 4.0 products.

PROJECTS vs PRODUCTS

PLA differentiates innovation from productization through Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs)

TRLs are our standard approach for assessing the maturity of solutions, where initiatives fall into Sandbox Ideas, Incubation Projects, or Graduated Products

An XLab team will accept, evaluate, and consolidate research and project requests, building a portfolio of projects and a pipeline of products.
